Gel nails or gel polish - what’s the difference?

Gel polish: colour on your own nails

Gel polish - also called gellak or shellac - is a coloured polish cured under a lamp. It gives glossy, long-lasting colour and typically lasts 2-3 weeks. It doesn’t build anything up, so your nails keep their own shape and length.

It suits you if your nails are naturally strong and you want colour and nothing more. I offer gel polish with a manicure (35 min, 499 kr.) and as a refresh where the old colour is removed first (45 min, 519 kr.).

Gel nails: strength and structure

Gel nails means the nail is built up with gel in a thicker layer than a polish. It gives real strength and an even shape, and it typically lasts 3-4 weeks before a refill is recommended. There are two routes:

• Builder gel on your natural nails: strength without added length, for weak or brittle nails (60 min, 669 kr.).
• Gel extensions: length or a new shape built up in gel on your own nails (90 min, 899 kr.).

How to choose

• Only want colour, and your nails are strong enough? Choose gel polish.
• Do your nails break or split, and you want to keep your own length? Choose builder gel.
• Want longer nails or a new shape? Choose gel extensions.

If you’re unsure, just come as you are. I always assess your nails first and recommend what suits them and your everyday life - no pressure.

Upkeep

Gel polish is typically refreshed every 2-3 weeks, gel nails every 3-4 weeks. I refill gel nails (60 min, 679 kr.). If more than 4 weeks have passed, or they were done in another salon, I set aside a little more time (75 min, 740 kr.).

Please don’t pick at the gel or polish yourself - book a repair or removal instead.
